Myth & Desire
My cartoony beginnings. After New York street painter Keith Herring died at the outset of 1990, I for one was moved by the great loss of a poignant pop-artist and contemporary painter and felt the need to “pick up the baton” and run with it in that particular field of visual art. I began to enlarge my comic drawings and paint them on canvas. In that sense, this series became more than a homage to the otherwise calligraphic creations of master Herring, but also to the classic black contour lines and undulating primary colour fields of my cartoon world, with my personal story telling as the main ingredient.
